Nu-Wave CXR EuphonicÂ’s Nu-Wave CXR system is an all-Raman based DWDM transport platform with an unsurpassed combination of capacity and reach. It is the industry?s only multi-reach OADM transport platform with the necessary capacity and reach to converge metropolitan, regional, long-haul and ultra long-haul systems onto a single homogenous network. Proven Raman technology allows the Nu-Wave CXR to deliver 100 nm of continuous usable bandwidth, providing 240 wavelength channels spaced 50GHz apart. The Nu-Wave CXR provides the bandwidth required by advanced IP applications with transmission distances of up to 3000 km at maximum capacity without regeneration. However, the Nu-Wave CXR?s 100 nm of useable bandwidth doesn?t just provide more capacity than other DWDM systems (in some cases, three times as much) - it provides more capacity plus unrivalled network flexibility plus enhanced intrinsic equipment reliability. With Euphonic?s Nu-Wave CXR system, service providers can profitably deliver traditional and emerging advanced IP services to their customers. Features include: Line system with high-capacity available from day 1 with no hidden upgrade cost Simplification of network planning, engineering, and operation Ability to increase bandwidth at moderate cost Short time to service for new, unplanned capacity requirements 40-Gb/s capability with no change to 10-Gb/s network engineering Multi-reach capabilities High-capacity transmission even on ?DWDM-challenged? fiber infrastructure Enhanced reporting capabilities resulting in simpler and more robust network operations Ease of operation 100G ready Raman amplification overview A Raman optical amplifier is based on an entirely different principle than conventional optical amplifiers. In a Raman amplifier pump lasers are connected to the fiber and transmit optical energy down the length of a fiber. As it passes along the fiber this extra energy interacts with the optical signal increasing its strength. Since the amplification is distributed along the length of the fiber Raman amplifiers have some significant advantages. First, the distances between amplifiers can be much further even when pumped from one end of the fiber. Where extra distance is required the fiber can be pumped from both ends, further increasing the distance. Secondly the distributed amplification provides a much improved Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR) compared to conventional optical amplifiers. This makes it possible to increase the number of cascaded amplifiers enabling very long links (3000 km) without the need for regeneration. Finally the optical bandwidth of a Raman system can be increased by adding extra pump lasers at different wavelengths. This makes it possible to transmit many more optical signals (up to 240 wavelengths) on a single fiber than a typical system (60-80 wavelengths).
